Most writers–and many readers–groove a particular channel of popular fiction, but some of us are magpies.
For me, what holds together all the pop lit I have consumed, taught, critiqued, and written is a certain weirdness that twists across every aspect of fiction.
You can see examples of my twists in the links at right, from an animal cop mystery story to a strange poem about masks to a scholarly book about two of the wilder mystery writers ever.
You can also see posts about some of my big loves, such as adaptations, that continue my arguments for including pop fiction in literary discussions, something I’ve written about for decades.
And then there’s the vampires….stay tuned for a forthcoming paperback of Temporary Vampire, my New Orleans novel about a mime and vamp who plays human after dark. And see the origins of this in “The Tale of a Temporary Vampire” above.
